Why I'm Running
I’m running to be your next Cook County Assessor because I know how to bring real, transformative change.
My focus will be on easing the tax burden for homeowners, creating fairness in property valuations, and restoring integrity to a system that impacts so many lives.
I currently lead a key stakeholder office in the property tax system, working directly with the Assessor’s leadership and other county offices to address operational and valuation issues. As a lawyer with over 16 years of property tax experience, I know the system’s flaws — and I’m ready to fix them on day one.
Property owners shouldn’t face crushing tax hikes or uncertainty. Business owners shouldn’t fear closure because of unfair assessments. We deserve a system driven by fairness, not politics. I have the knowledge, skills, and experience to deliver the change Cook County needs.

Meet Timnetra Burruss
My name is Timnetra Burruss, and I am asking for your support to be Cook County’s next Assessor.
I know the issues, challenges, and areas of opportunity to improve the system. I am currently at the table trying to effect change in a property tax system, which has deteriorated significantly under the current Assessor.
I have achievable ideas to course correct the Assessor’s office and the property tax system as a whole on Day 1.
I can get into the intricacies of valuation and methodology, but I am coming before you asking for your support because I want the same change you do. I am pursuing the same property tax relief and systemic repair that your constituents and communities are demanding.
I have been frustrated for a long time by the amount of errors, flawed valuation methodology, and disregard for everyday people and business owners under the current administration. The County deserves better.
We all deserve better.
I have dedicated my career to public service and have a proven track record of engagement in my community and in communities across the county.
I am confident in my ability to establish effective coalitions across all levels of government to resolve the long-standing issues that have led to inequitable tax burdens and existing socioeconomic inequalities.
I have the skills and experience to run a County office and bring about the necessary change by working collaboratively with all stakeholders to reimagine the property tax system so that it reflects the fair, accessible, and transparent system we all deserve.
This is personal for me. I am normally the person who gets the work done behind the scenes, but I know that I am uniquely positioned to transform the Assessor’s Office and provide relief to property owners through a cohesive plan. I’m a planner. I have a roadmap.
